Doy was born in Tennessee and died in Dresden, Weakley County, Tennessee. Doy was the son of Sam J. and Berta Capps. On June 3, 1939 in Chicago, Illinois, Doy married Helen Schwytzer. According to Cook County, Illinois Marriage Index, 1930-1960 on December 14, 1933 Doy married Ruby Lee Owens.
