She was the daughter of Robert Waid and Nancy Welch Lackey. She never married.

Miss Mary Jane Lackey, 44, died at her home at Galatia on Friday, July 4, 1890. She was born January 8, 1846, to Robert Waid Lackey and Nancy Welch Lackey.
Miss Lackey came to the Galatia area of what was then Izard County with her parents on one of the ox drawn wagon trains in the early 1850's and
had lived in the Galatia area until her death.
Survivors include three brothers, Gray Lackey, Jim Lackey, and Dr. William H.H. Lackey; and two sisters, Allie Lackey and Fanny Yearry.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Andrew Lackey and John Lackey; and three sisters, Nancy Bon Yearry, Louisa Lackey and Sarah Lackey.
Funeral services were conducted at the Galatia Chruch with burial in the Galatia Cemetery.
