FAYETTEVILLE -- Daniel Hoskins Jr., 86, of Fayetteville died Sunday, June 22, 2008, at the Northwest Medical Center-Springdale. He was born May 4, 1922, in Muskogee, Okla., to Daniel Hoskins Sr. and Ethel Cora Dill Hoskins.

After graduating high school, he joined the Navy in November 1941. During World War II, he was stationed on several ships operating in the Pacific Campaign. After the war, he returned to his home in Tulsa, Okla. In 1946, he moved to Fayetteville, where he lived the remainder of his life.

Dan worked as a postal carrier in Fayetteville for 20 years, and after he retired he enjoyed working in his shop. He mainly enjoyed woodworking, rebuilding of Model-T cars and violin making. Dan was an amateur radio operator since 1960 with the call sign WA5ATK. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

Dan was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Martha Avis Combs Hoskins; his son, Larry; his sister, Wynona Mitchell; and his brother, Alva Hoskins, all of Fayetteville.

Survivors include two sons, James Daniel Hoskins and wife Debbie of Fayetteville, and Loy Gene Hoskins and wife Vicki of Springdale; one daughter, Ada Jane Hoskins Whatley and husband Mark of Fayetteville; three grandchildren, Brian Hoskins and wife Brandi of Fayetteville, Jamie Hoskins and wife Kami of Greenland, and Felicia Hoskins of Kansas City, Kan.; two great-grandchildren, Brittany and Ada Nicole Hoskins of Fayetteville; and a brother, Marvin Dale Hoskins and wife Joyce of Mineral Wells, Texas. Dan also will be missed by his loving companion of 19 years, Aneita Jones, and her daughter, Anna Raye Skaggs, both of Fayetteville.

Dan was a member of the Springdale Adventist Fellowship Church.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today, June 24, at Moore's Chapel in Fayetteville, online at mooresfuneralchapel.com.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 25, at the funeral home.

Burial will be in the Hester Cemetery in Fayetteville.
