Nancy Emeline JONES

Patton Cemetery
Marion County,
Arkansas

There is no further information available on the child Nancy Emeline Jones. Her grave is among the early Magness graves in the Patton Cemetery. As a result, she was probably a daughter of a member of the Magness family.

This is one of 17 graves that are in the southeast corner of the Patton Cemetery on the banks of Crooked and Clear Creek that are covered with limestone slabs. Most of the slabs are coffin shaped like this one. The size of this slab indicated that Nancy Emeline Jones was a child. It appears that the slabs originally were placed on top of rock foundations, but most of the foundations have given away over the years, and in this case the coffin shaped slab has broken. The coffin shaped slabs have a large cross engraved upon them, and on this one, the cross is very clear.

Based upon the dates on the neighboring markers, it would appear that the death date for Miss Jones was somewhere between the mid-1830's and 1870.
