Judy was a midwife to many of her neighbors in Marion County. From all accounts, Judy was a remarkable woman. Stories shared with Alfreda Isaacs Chinski tell that she practically worked their farm all alone because John was a salesman and always gone somewhere. In addition to all the hard work on the farm, she took in the 5 orphaned children of Fleming Gibson after he died. She also took her mother in law into her home and cared for her until her death. Those were difficult times that only a strong and big hearted woman like Judy could have dealt with. Alfreda thinks often of Willie Ann who died so young, leaving the 5 little children, and who'd never met Judy; and of Judy who was so good to take on the extra burden in addition to her own kids. Clora, grandmother of Alfreda Isaacs Chinski, was one of those orphans. Clora said she was treated kindly, though times were difficult and they all had to work hard. Clora's brother William "Willie" said he didn't have good shoes one winter and had to hire-out to earn his keep. Their sister Laura didn't like their Aunt Judy because she was made to do chores and she detested farm life (Alfreda understands that). When Elizabeth "Bett" grew up, she married Farmer Jones and moved to Texas. Source - Alfreda Chinski - (Chinski@comcast.net)
