born in Noxubee County, Mississippi on October 22, 1835 to Elder William B and Mary E Hall Lloyd. His father was a preacher in the Missionary Baptist Church for over 40 years.
He was the third son of six children born to this family. He was raised on the farm in Mississippi and educated in the old subscription schools. When he was twenty years old he began life on his own account as an overseer. In 1858 he married Elizabeth Sallis, a native of Alabama. From this marriage three children were born: Willam S., Susan E. and James H.

In 1861 he enlisted in Company C., 40th Mississippi Volunteer Infantry and served in the Confederate Army until the close of the war. He participated in the battle of Luka, second battle of Corinth, and at Vicksburg was surrendered to the enemy, but afterward exchanged. He also went on to the Georgia campaign. He was never wounded.

His wife, Elizabeth died in 1866, and a year later he was married to Miss Mary C Black who bore him four children: Richard A., Lydia C., Durward P. and Carrie C.

Mr. Lloyd came to Crawford County in 1874 and purchased 120 acres of land. His wife Mary passed away in 1876, and in 1878 he married Martha C. Garner. They had one child, Bettie L. His wife Martha died in 1879. He then married Mrs. Fannie E. Mayfield Pile. She brought to this marriage three children from her first husband: Theodore, Wallace and Herschel. She and Mr. Lloyd were the parents of five more chldren: Amzy B., Josie, Virgie E., Bonnie E. and Levie T.

Mr. Lloyd and his entire family were members of the Missionary Baptist Church.
