Matthew Joseph Cichy, 30, of Mansfield, formerly of St Charles, Illinois,died Thursday, June 14, 2007, at his home, after a valiant six-month battle with cancer. Matt has always been an exceptionally brave person and fought his cancer to its end with great courage.
Matt was primarily a roofer; he also remodeled homes and scrapped metal. He took great pride in his work. A harder worker could not be found. Matt loved his family and was loyal and helpful to his friends. Matthew's greatest wish, to be reunited with his 13-year-old son, Joey Miller, whom he deeply loved, sadly was not realized.
He is survived by his wife of 8 1/2 months, Belinda of his home; his mother, Nancy Pershell of Mansfield; his father, Joseph (Wat) Cichy of
Antioch, Illinois; his grandmother, Pat Pershell of Mansfield; his sister,Jennifer (Mike) Ambrogi of Earlville, Illinois; two brothers, Nathan of the West Coast and Gavin of Russellville. Arkansas; one son, Joseph James Miller of Illinois; a stepdaughter, Kristen Nichole Farrar of the home; one nephew,Jonathan Cichy of Russellville; his godparents/cousins, Ingrid and Donato Ricci of North Miami Beach, Flaorida; three uncles, David Pershell of Baroda,
Michigan, Dick (Kathy) of St Clair Shores, Michigan, and Dan (Penny) of Houston;
and many cousins.
Memorial service and burial was Saturday, June 16, 2007, at 2 pm at Coop Prairie Cemetery in Mansfield, Arkansas. Thanks to Edwards Funeral Home of Fort Smith for handling the arrangements. Many thanks to Peachtree Hospice of Fort Smith, especially Kay Barota,RN, and Kathy Lyon, LMSW. Very special thanks to Father Tom Elliott, pastor of Christ the King Church in Fort Smith, for the comforting graveside
service.
