Cecilia C Gorrell, 92, of Van Buren went to be with her heavenly Father on Saturday, February 7, 2004, in Fort Smith. She was born December 12, 1911, as the ninth of the 12 children of John and Elizabeth (Von der Heide) Gorrell of Subiaco.
At the age of 16, she was the organist at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church at Subiaco. She moved first to Kansas City, Kan., then to Arlington, Va., where she worked for the Navy in the Procurement Department for 33 years. She retired in 1974 and returned to Arkansas in 1997 to reside in Fort Smith. She loved playing classical music on the piano, painting in oils and playing bridge.
Rosary will be 7 pm today at Roller Funeral Home Chapel in Paris. Mass will be at 10 am Tuesday at St Benedict Catholic Church in Subiaco with interment at St Benedict Catholic Cemetery in Subiaco.
Cecilia is survived by the following nieces and nephews and spouses: Rita Duerr, Alice and Joe Schwartz, David and Joyce Gorrell, Virginia and Bill McMullan, Genevieve and Bill Landgraf, Glennetta and Larry Esswein, Jeanette and Frank Curran, Mary and Jim Van Gorp, Sharon Kuenzel, Geraldine and Clark Kaelin, Betty Rose and Robert Halliburton, Barbara and Tony Bauer, Mary and Kenny Phelps, Deland and Jadeen Gillam, Annette and Ed Knittig, John and Lena Vogelpohl, Sid and Jeanette Vogelpohl and Lambert and Jan Vogelpohl. She also is survived by a sister-in-law, Rose Marie Gorrell.
Pallbearers will be James Clark Kaelin, Joe Schwartz and John, Sid, Lambert and Michael Vogelpohl.
