From The Mountain Echo, July 14, 1911, issue:

Will Hudson last Tuesday went down to be at the funeral of "Uncle" Berry Hudson, who died at his home near Winnerva Monday night. "Uncle" Berry was one of the old time settlers and was respected by all who knew him. The edior of the ECHO expecially remembered "Uncle" Berry's many kindness to him. He was both a Mexican and Confederate soldier. He and Maj. Hilton were the last survivors of the Mexican war in this section of the state.
