Elmer Jay Brown, 63, of Magnolia, formerly of El Dorado died at the Magnolia City Hospital at 1:15 p.m. Tuesday following a brief illness. Mr. Brown was born at Pawnee, Okla., Oct. 25, 1900, the son of George W. H. and Gertrude Ryan Brown. He had been a resident of Arkansas approximately 40 years and had lived in Magnolia since 1939. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Norma Calvert Brown; a son Elmer J. Brown, Jr., Magnolia; two daughters, Mrs. A. C. McLain, McNeil; Mrs. C. N. Amadon, Texarkana, Tex; four brothers, E. C. Brown, Long Beach, Calif., O. W. Brown, L. R. Brown and R. E. Brown all of El Dorado; four sisters, Mrs. Mary Bock, El Dorado; Mrs. Earnest Fuss, Pawnee, Okla.; Mrs. Elmer Zemp, Ponca City, Okla.; Mrs. James T. Burns, El Dorado; and six grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at the First Methodist Church in Magnolia with the Rev. Carl E. Beard officiating. Burial arrangements will be under the direction of Rumph Mortuary at McNeil New Hope Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Mr. Brown's nephews. Honorary pallbearers will be Lake Green, Dr. Charles W. Kelley, Ike Colquett, Carl Rogers, Charles Overstreet, Bob Warnock and Ben Laney. The body will lie in state at Rumph Mortuary until Thursday morning at which time it will be taken to the First Methodist Church in Magnolia where it will lie in state from 9:30 a.m. until funeral time.
