*FAIRVIEW CEMETERY OVERVIEW

Fairview Cemetery
Marion County,
Arkansas

Prior to the impounding of the Bull Shoals Reservoir, the Corps of Engineers oversaw the disinterment of graves in cemeteries that would be covered by the lake. The Corps established a cemetery in the Fairview Community about four miles north of Flippin on the west side of Highway 178. The remains from the Wildcat Cemetery which had 356 graves, the 15 graves from the Cain Cemetery, the 20 graves from the Jimmie Creek Mill Cemetery, the 11 graves from the Parker Cemetery, and four of the 14 graves from the Musick Cemetery were relocated to this new cemetery. Family members had made arrangements to have the other 10 graves from the Musick Cemetery moved to the Flippin Cemetery. The Corps of Engineers completed the relocating of graves in early 1948, and they named the new cemetery New Wildcat Cemetery and turned it over to a board of directors made up of descendants of individuals that were now buried there. New Wildcat Cemetery soon became Fairview Cemetery, and new burials began almost immediately.

Today, the Fairview Cemetery is a large, well kept cemetery and it is one of the most used in Marion County.
