Wilbur E. Owens, 75, of Route 3, Mt. Home, a retired farmer, businessman and former mail carrier, died Sunday at his residence in the Salesville community, southeast of here. He was a veteran of World War I.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Ruby Martin Owens of the home; two daughters, Mrs. Barbara Wilson of Fort Smith and Mrs. Wilma Strong of Springfield, MO; two brothers, Hayes Owens of Prairie Village, KS, and Jess Owens of Okmulgee, OK; two sisters, Mrs. Celia Dewitt of Salem and Mrs. Florence Britton of Marshall; and three grandchildren.
The son of the late John Lewis Owens and Mary Thrasher Owens, Mr. Owens was born Feb 25, 1894, in the Rodney community near Norfork. He was a lifetime resident of Baxter County. A former postal service employee, he operated a star route between Norfork and Mt. Home for a number of years.
Funeral services are scheduled for 1PM today (Thursday) at the Norfork Church. The officiating minister will be Rev. William Womack, pastor of the First United Methodist Church of Mt. Home. Interment will be in Norfork Cemetery, under the direction of the McClure Service.
Pallbearers will be Hoyt Lewis, Howard M. Zillion, Arthur L. Boggs, Ernest Parnell, R.H. Carter and Robert Luther.
