Roy Lee “Butch” Gaffney of Midway, Arkansas went to be with his wife and true love on June 8th, 2023. He was born August 1st, 1946.

Butch was known by many and loved by all that knew him. He was a kind and giving man who never met a stranger. No matter where he was, he could always find someone to talk to. Butch was a loving husband, son, brother, uncle, grandpa, and great grandpa. He stepped up and became a great father to his boys. He was a man that others would want to be and was always helping where he could. He helped to take care of his grandmother and mom in their later years in life.

Butch was knowledgeable about so many things due to his many experiences in life. He was a trucker driver for most of his life and would drive darn near anything he came into contact with as well as work on.

He loved helping the grandkids with their 4H projects raising and showing the animals. Butch got so much joy out of helping the young ones with the animals. He was always willing to drive anyone anywhere and has taken his grandson to Little Rock many times.

It did not matter how tired he was, he was always willing to do whatever needed to be done for anyone. As Butch matured in life and slowed down a bit, seeing his precious grandchildren and great grandchildren brought out the kid in him even more.

Butch got the biggest smile anyone has ever seen and the glow in his eyes was beautiful when he would look at his wife Liz. He reminded you of a teenager who had seen the most beautiful girl in the world. They were high school sweethearts who got back together later in life and from the pictures nothing had changed.

Butch would always find a way to get Liz whatever she wanted and she did the same for him.

He liked to eat at the Huddle House and the Waffle House. You can bet he always had his coffee, not just in the morning but all throughout the day. If he didn’t have coffee, he had a glass full of sweet tea.

Butch was not a fancy or high-tech person. He was a simple man who enjoyed the little things in life that so many of us forget about.... nature, quietness, and just being around loved ones to name a few.

He could tell you some stories. He should have written a book with the experiences that he encountered.

When he was younger, he served his country as a Marine in Vietnam. He will be deeply missed by all.
