Born in West VA - Feb 11, 2024

Ramon Montez Chavez, 72 of Rupert Arkansas, sadly left us on February 11, 2024

Ramon is survived by his daughter Nicole Schafer, and granddaughters, Ella, Kate, and Caroline Schafer, his brother Ryan Hall, his sister Berta Rae Long, nephews David and Matthew Luckett, Frank Chmela and niece Carrie Clyde. He was preceded in death by his parents Bert and Midge Chavez and his sister Janice Osborn and her son Darren Chmela.

Ramon was born in Dorothy, West Virginia, and grew up in West Covina, California. He excelled in school and sports and loved baseball and football. Family and friends called him Mone, Monie, Southern Buck, and Little Pup. He moved to Rupert, AR in his mid-teens, where he attended Alread High School. He was welcomed and liked by all the families and their children. He worked for neighbors in their hayfields and he helped the potato farmers in the area. Later he worked as carpenter, a concrete mason and he did beautiful rock work. He also worked for Gillam Railroad Service for over 15 years.

He loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, but Ramon’s favorite pastime was fishing. Mone enjoyed gathering with friends and neighbors for cookouts, horseshoes, cards and dominos. Many will remember the fun nicknames Ramon gave them and his kindness and generosity.

Please join us as we remember Ramon on March 30, 2024 at 10:00am at Pleasant Grove Friendship Church; 22210 Hwy 16 West, Alread, AR 72031. Lunch to follow at the Church.
