Steve Garner, 60, died Sunday, July 26th 2015 at Mercy Medical Center in Rogers, Arkansas, surrounded by his loving family. Born November 4th, 1954 in Blytheville, Arkansas to Dorothy Stainton Garner and L.D. (Shorty) Garner. Steve retired after a successful career from Southwestern Bell in November, 2004. Steve was of the Baptist faith and attended First Baptist Church of Prescott, Arkansas. Steve was a lover of fishing, and a devout Razorback fan. After a long battle of health problems, Steve was diagnosed with a rare cancer, soft tissue sarcoma, in his leg that metastasized to his lungs and rapidly deteriorated his body. He succumbed to his illness and passed away surrounded by love and comfort from his family to be with the Lord. He was preceded in death by his parents, mother Dorothy Stainton Garner, and father, L.D. (Shorty) Garner. He is survived by son Jon Garner and daughter Kori Garner of Jonesboro, Arkansas, step daughter Kay (Mrs. Ricky) Brooks, of Steamboat Springs, Colorado, step son David Karnes of Cherry Valley, Arkansas, two brothers; Lynn Garner, wife, Sharon, of Houston, Texas, Brent Garner, wife, Libby, of Bentonville, Arkansas, one grandson Bradly Karnes of Cherry Valley, Arkansas, and one grand dog, Sam Garner, of Wynne, Arkansas. In lieu of flowers, we, the family, ask that any donations be made in Steve's honor to the American Cancer Society for research funding for rare cancers to help others battling this illness. There will be no formal visitation. Funeral service is 11:00am, Friday, July 31, 2015 at Brazzel/Cornish Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Frank Henson officiating.
