Ernest Denard Hogue, Sr., 87, departed this life on April 12, 2018. He was born August 29, 1930 to Henry and Helen Hogue.

Ernest began working at a very early age for Conprest, Breeden Doge and Cargo Internal General Tire where he retired. He attended Douglas High School in Van Buren, Arkansas. He joined the New Hope Missionary Baptist Church at the age of thirteen and remained a member until his death. He was a faithful member who was know as the "candy man" because he would bring treats and goodies to the children, as well as the adults, every Sunday. He was a willing worker in any department he was asked to serve. Ernest knew everyone in Fort Smith, Arkansas and if he didn't know them, he knew who they were related to. He enjoyed his back yard and his family being around him. He will be missed by anyone who knew him.

Ernest married Gussie Mae Fields on May 14, 1950 and to this union nine children were born.

His wife preceded him in death on January 30, 2007. Also preceding him in death were his parents, Henry and Helen Hogue; three brothers, J.D. Hogue, George Hogue and Henry Hogue; three sisters, Velma Sloan, Hazel Rogers and Margaret Harris all of Van Buren, Arkansas.

Survivors: five sons, Ernest Jr. (Ressie) of Little Rock, AR, Gerald (Tonya) of Wetunka, OK, Glen (Cynthia) of Fort Smith, AR, George (Judy) of Fort Smith, and Terry (Jacque) of Houston, TX; four daughters, Velma Hogue of Houston, TX, Christine Bray (Donald) of Fort Smith, AR, Anita Mubaarac (Shaw) of Houston, TX, and Teresa (Moses) of Fort Smith, AR; two brothers, Clarence Hogue of Fort Smith, AR and John Henry of Los Angeles, CA; fourteen grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and a host of nephew, nieces, extended family and friends.

Celebration of life service will be held, Saturday, April 21, 2018, 11:00 A.M. at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, 18 South 14th Street, Van Buren, Arkansas.
