Billy Gene Hughes Jr., 60, entered into rest on Monday March 3, 2014. He was born on May 10, 1953 in Van Buren,AR to Billy V and Sarah Elizabeth Hughes. He was hard working, employed many years at Harry G Barr Co and Baldor Electric. Afterwards he became a self-employed contractor meeting lifelong, loyal friends. Billy's' first love was Stock-car Racing. He was the first African American to race at Crawford County Speedway in Van Buren and Tri-State in Pocola. Billy "Bee", Jr. had a heart of gold and was gentle and loving.
This awesome man was saved, baptized and enjoyed living life to the fullest along with his family and friends. He was preceded in death by one son, Charles Hughes. He is survived by two daughters Deborah Irvin (Antonio) and Diresha Smith both of Little Rock, AR one son TJ Berryman (Maryanna) of Fayetteville, AR,; four brothers: John Hughes(Diane), James "Dill" Hughes(Kathy), Bobby "Jap" Hughes, all of Fort Smith, Ar. and Frederick "Kelly" Hughes of Van Buren, Ar; eight grandchildren, eleven nieces and nephews, 15 great nieces and nephews and a host of family and friends who love and miss him dearly.
Funeral service will be Friday, March 14, 2014 at St James Baptist Church at 11:00 a.m. with intermit at Washington Cemetery. Pallbearers are Phillip Bridges, Dustin Lane, Larry Norwood, Ronnie Hamilton, Warner Mays Jr and Gregory Shurn. Viewing will be held Thursday, 13, 2014 at Rowell-Parish Mortuary.
