June 27, 1920 - June 20, 2001
Major Hosea Conley, Jr. was born June 27, 1920 in Fort Smith, Arkansas. As the only child, his mother Consuella Carter, and step-father, Ernest “Buster” Carter, who both preceded him in death, reared him.
Major was educated in the Fort Smith Public School System and graduated from Lincoln High School. After graduation, he served a tour of duty in the U.S. Army during World War II.
In the mid 1960’s he moved to Kansas City, Missouri where he became a successful hotel owner/operator until his retirement in 1995. He was an avid fisherman and Chiefs fan.
Major departed this like on June 20, 2001 after a lengthy illness. He survived three wives; Rosa Mae Craig, with whom he had one daughter, Doris York, with whom he had two sons and Dannella Archie, with whom he had one daughter. In addition to these family members, he leaves to mourn his passing a devoted adopted son, eleven grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, one great great granddaughter, a host of nieces, nephews, friends and fishing buddies.
