Walter V. Willard, 72, of Fort Smith went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2006, from his home, after a battle with cancer. He previously worked for ABF Freight System Inc. for 42 years before retiring his position as vice president of sales which he served for 20 of those years; he also was a longtime and active member of First Baptist Church in Fort Smith. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Mary Ann of the home; one daughter, Julie King and her husband, Johnny; one son, David Willard and his wife, Penny, all of Fort Smith; one brother, Bob Willard of Tishomingo, Okla.; and three grandchildren, Kendall King, Tiffany and Vince Willard, all of Fort Smith. Funeral service will be today at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Fort Smith with burial at Roselawn Cemetery under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Robert Young, Dave Darter, Don Henley, Wes Kemp, Dr. Adam Gold, Roy Slagle and John Dale. Honorary pallbearers will be all retired and current vice presidents of ABF Freight System Inc. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church Media Center, 1400 Grand, Fort Smith, AR 72901; or Arkansas or Peachtree Hospice, 4300 Rogers Ave., Fort Smith, AR 72903.
