From the April 26, 1943 The Bristol News Bulletin (Bristol, Tennessee) article titled “Army Fliers Killed in Tennessee Crash,” the article stated that “An air accident board has been ordered by Col. Christopher C. Scott, commanding officer at Northern Field, to investigate the cause of the crash of a light army bomber two miles north of here Saturday night in which two army fliers were killed instantly and a rear gunner critically injured.
Those who died in the crash, the base public relations officer said, were First Lieutenant Harley W. Jefferson, 33, observer, of Sparta, Wis., and Second Lieutenant Theodore J. Schwink, 22, pilot, of Ft. Smith, Arkansas.
The gunner, Staff Sergeant Edward E. Eames, 23, of Culver City, Calif., who suffered critical internal injuries, was taken to Camp Forrest hospital.
The victims’ nearest of kin have been notified.
Lieutenant Jefferson is survived by his widow, Mrs. Victoria Jefferson, New York City, and Lieutenant Schwink by his widow, Mrs. Billy E. Schwink, Ft. Smith, Ark.”
