On Wednesday, November 22, 2023, James Howe, a beloved husband, father and uncle passed away. He was 87 years old.

Born to Rachel Marcel Abbott Howe and Carson Howe Sr., James graduated from Louisiana Tech University with a degree in forestry and went on to become a U.S. Forester.

James was born in Hampton AR. He was preceded in death by his brother, Carson Howe Jr. and his sister, Beverly Lang. He loved his early years, often retelling stories that happened and remembering interactions with family and friends.

He is survived by the love of his life, Diane, who he met in St. Charles, AR where he was working. They married in 1964, James is also survived by their son, Philip Howe of Conway, AR and by his sister, Mary Reedy of Hot Springs Village, AR.

James had a very rewarding career. He was the Chief Forester for the Bureau of Indian Affairs which protects and improves the trust assets of American Indians, Indian tribes and Alaska Natives. Before that he was a Forester for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, which protects and manages the National Wildlife Refuge System. The work he did took him to many places across the U.S., including visiting Alaska to review and manage timber and living in Washington D.C.

James had several hobbies, but his favorite was beekeeping. He relished the preparation, maintenance and stewardship of taking care of bees and then enjoying and sharing the honey that was produced.

James was loved and will be deeply missed by his family and close friends.

There will not be a memorial service at this time.
