John Byrd Norris, 83, of Collierville, TN passed away on Saturday December 10th, 2016. Byrd, as he was known to family and friends, was born September 19th, 1933 in Strong, AR. He was a graduate of Southern State College in Magnolia, AR and was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church in El Dorado, AR. He was the owner of Norris Trucking Company in Mena, AR and in retirement moved to Hot Springs, AR for several years before settling in Collierville, TN.

Byrd was preceded in death by his parents Hamp J. and Pearl Morrison Norris; his brothers, James Patrick “Pete” and Jessie Lee Norris; and a niece, Marie Norris Pendley. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Bertha Mitchell Norris; his brother Dossie E. Norris; his stepchildren James Larry Robertson (Karen) and Patricia Lynn Eddleman; his nieces Margaret Ann Coleman, Shirley Hayes, Pam Humphries, and Barbara Keaster; his nephews Charles, Gene, and Tommy Norris; his grandchildren Michelle Fischer (Steve), Scott Robertson (Patricia) and Alison Robertson; four great-grandchildren and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 13, 2016 from 12-2 p.m. at Proctor Funeral Home in Camden, AR with the funeral service beginning at 2:00 p.m. Burial will immediately follow at Lakeside Cemetery in Ouachita County, AR.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in Byrd’s honor to Memphis Jewish Home & Rehab in Cordova, TN.
