ARLINGTON, Va. — Alfred Eldon Beaty, 76, of Arlington, Va., died March 25, 2007, at George Washington University Hospital in Washington, D.C. He was born Aug. 22, 1930, at Lincoln to Travis and Marie Maxwell Beaty.

He was a Korean War veteran. Beaty moved to the Washington, D.C. - area after graduating from the University of Arkansas in 1957 with bachelor's degrees in journalism and political science.

He began his career path as a freelance journalist for The Washington Herald and was sole proprietor of the Lincoln Stamp Company. He later worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture in soil conservation and the U.S. Forest Service as an information specialist. He was a Mason, a past-president of CINE (a film industry organization), and a member of Toastmasters. He was an avid genealogist and a stamp and coin collector.

Survivors include his wife Jacqueline A. Beaty of Arlington, Va.; a son, James T. Beaty of Manassas, Va.; two daughters, Tamm A. Thomas of Richmond, Va. and Retta M. Murabito Moore of South Carolina; two brothers, Robert D. (Bob) Beaty of Conway and William L. Beaty of Broken Arrow, Okla.; and grandchildren Lauren Murabito, Erin Murabito and Travis Beaty.

Services are being planned for May in Prairie Grove. Interment will be in the Prairie Grove Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Luginbuel Funeral Home of Prairie Grove, www.luginbuel.com.
