October 6, 1942 - December 11, 2019
James B. Hunter, aged 77, of Mayflower, AR formerly of Warren, AR passed away on December 11th at his home in Mayflower, AR surrounded by loved ones and is now at home in Heaven with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. James was born in Warren, AR, to Grady and Doris Dearman-Hunter on October 6, 1942. He was the youngest of their four children, Juanita Hunter-Clay (Fred), Victor Hunter (Verna Mae), and Curtis Hunter (Lena). James graduated from Warren High School in 1960 and married his high school sweetheart, Pat Johnston-Hunter, in 1961. They welcomed daughter Lydia Hunter-Verret (Scott) in 1963, Nancy Hunter-Arnold in 1967, and Melissa Hunter-Smith (Brooks) in 1972. Together they enjoyed seeing their family grow with their nine grandchildren, Dallas, Hannah, Erin, Julia, Hunter, Eli, Avery, Claire, and Georgia.
James started his career in retail at Morgan & Lindsey, sweeping floors and stocking shelves, and he ended his career as a regional supervisor and real estate scout for Freds, Inc. While at Freds, he won many awards and earned the respect of those who worked with him as a man who was fair, honest, and willing to do any job in the store that needed to be done. As his career moved James and his family around Arkansas several times, God called him to deeper faith while attending Calvary Baptist Church in Hope, Arkansas. It was at Calvary that he grew in his relationship with the Lord and gained many life-long Christian friends along the way. Besides his involvement in church, one of James favorite activities was gathering with the extended Hunter family for picking and grinning with their instruments, including Pa Hunter and Jim Duvall on fiddle, James on mandolin, and many others joining in with guitars and singing.
He retired to Warren in 2000 and fully enjoyed every moment of it. He was a faithful member of Immanuel Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and served many biscuits and sausage as part of their mens breakfast crew. He was an avid fisherman and hunter as a member of Greens Lake Hunting Club. He could often be found cruising through the woods on his Rhino with Pat and friends, talking to the other Waynes at the main camp house, or cleaning fish to fry and share with others.
When James health took a turn for the worse, he and Pat moved to Mayflower, AR, to be near two of their daughters and the health care providers that he needed. His wife Pat was his greatest supporter and faithful caretaker, making sure that he keeps every appointment including dialysis treatments for two years before numerous health issues got the best of his body and he made the decision to enter Hospice care. Although it was a difficult decision, his family is at peace because James fought a good fight, and because he is covered in the blood of Jesus, he is now enjoying Gods praise and worship with loved ones who went on before him.
Funeral services were 2:30PM Sunday, December 15th at Immanuel Baptist Church with Rev. David Richey and Rev. Jim Bales officiating. Burial was in Moseley Cemetery by Frazers Funeral Home. Active pallbearers were Hugh Allen Quimby, Mike Lathan, Scott White, Steve Parnell, Charles Andrus, Gary Thornton and Pete Woodard. Honorary pallbearers Morris Ray Curry, Gary Pruitt, Bobby and Debbie Hargrave, Ronnie Lanier and the Sunday School Class of 2nd Baptist Church.
