MILITARY RITES THURSDAY
Burial services for Flight Officer Norman Jones, Jr., a former Emporia State student, were held in Rose Lawn Cemetery, Fort Smith, Ark., Thursday.
Flight Officer Jones was the only crew member who lost his life in a plane crash in Upper Assam, India, June 14, 1945. The other members of the crew had time to parachute safely from the plane which was piloted and commanded by Flight Officer Jones.
Burial with full military honors was in the American Military cemetery in Assam, India. He was awarded the Air Medal and the Bronze Star with two oak leaf clusters.
He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. N. E. Jones, and a brother, David Jones, of Fort Smith. His aunt, Miss Edith Jones, and his cousin, Miss Elizabeth Jones, 420 Cottonwood, Emporia, went to Fort Smith to attend the services.
