Perry Lee Cockreham, 86, of Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif., formerly of Fort Smith, died Thursday, Oct. 5, 2006, in Torrance, Calif. He was an auto parts sales manager and veteran of the Arkansas National Guard. Following high school, Perry joined the Arkansas National Guard to pursue his musical interests. While serving in the 142nd Field Artillery, he was called to active duty in World War II where he rose to the rank of master sergeant and served as a fire contact director of a number of guns. Following Germany, he was sent to Japan with the occupation troops.
