Caruth Alexander, president of the Commercial Bank of Alma, Arkansas died Monday night from a gunshot wound in his head.

Details of the tragedy were being pieced together by officers of the law, who were not available for comment. Mac McKenzie, deputy coroner and operator of the Gold Cross Ambulance, said he was out of town, but that "his boys" picked up the banker about 6 o'clock, and while trying to resuscitate him rushed him to Sparks hospital. There he was pronunced dead.

Bill Vickery, sheriff, was out of town Wednesday as we were going to press. Other officers asked not to be quoted.

Mr. Alexander was 43 years old, and had just recently completed a magnificent enlargement of his bankig structure in a fine new home at the intersection of Highway 64-71.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian church in Alma, and of the Masonic Lodge, the Shrine club, and Amrita Grotto.

Survivors are his wife; a son; his mother; a sister; his father, the late Fred Alexander, was president of the bank for many years.

Funeral service was held Wednesday at 3 p.m. in Fentress Mortuary chapel with Ross Kirvin, Alma Presbyterian pastor, officiating. Burial was in Roselawn Cemetery.

Honorary pallbearers were directors of the Commercial Bank of Alma.
