JUNCTION CITY Paul Howard (Doc) Muse, 82, of Junction City died on Friday, April 22, 2011 at Saline Memorial Hospital in Benton Arkansas.

Born on June 2, 1928 in El Dorado Arkansas he was the son of Dr. Paul H Muse, Sr and Inez Hill Muse.

Friends and family remember Howard as a life-long Dragon. During his first season as Coach of the Lady Dragons in 1959 the team won the first ever Championship Title in the Dual-State Tournament.

He enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing and RV traveling with Joy and the State Line 5.

Howard retired in 1992 after 36 years of devoted service to the Junction City School District as Superintendent, Principal, Teacher and beloved Coach. He was voted District AA Football Coach of the year in 1971. One of his most meaningful days was being honored with the naming of Paul H. Muse Field at Dragon Stadium in September of 2004.

He was a member of First Baptist Church of Junction City for 71 Years, Serving as Choir Director at various times.

He was a graduate of Junction City High School in 1946. He earned a B.S. of Science from Ouachita Baptist University; Masters Degree in Educational Administration from University of Arkansas; Specialist Degree in Education from Louisiana Tech University.

Always active in the Community, Howard Served as Fire Chief and lifetime Member of Junction City Volunteer Fire Department; Organized Junction City Volunteer Ambulance Association; Treasurer of The City of Junction City Arkansas Retiring 2010; a Member Emeritus- Arkansas Superintendents Association, El Dorado #13 Free and Accepted Masons of El Dorado Arkansas; 32 Degree Mason of the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry and a 50 Year Member of the Shiners International.

Howard is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Joy Muse; two children Paula (Jerry) Johnson of Benton; Richard C. (Amelia) Muse of Lonoke; and his six grandchildren who knew him as Pappy: Julia (Jeff) Combs, Paul Muse, Jill (Brian) Henley, Jeff (Randi) Johnson, Charlotte Muse, Reagan Muse, as well as six great-grandchildren: Jordan and Justin Combs, Brayden, Burke and Brianna Henley, and Lilly Johnson.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday in First Baptist Church with Rev. Bruce Cardin and Rev Claude Patterson officiating. Interment will be held in Roselawn Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends from 4:30 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Monday evening at First Baptist Church.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Junction City.
