Wade Hampton Smalling passed away Saturday morning, April 23, 2011 at his home in Edmond, Oklahoma. He is survived by his wife, Patricia Ann (Weed); his children: Linda Darlene (Mabry), Billy Wade Smalling, and Shirley Ann Smalling; his grandchildren: Wade Treloar Smalling, Joshua Michael Trimmell, Kate Brittany Trimmell, Elle Patricia Trimmell, Luke William Trimmell, and Katarina Marie Smalling; and his great-grandchildren: Zoe Ann Henderson and Phaedra Reid Smalling. Mr. Smalling was born in Mt. Holly, Arkansas, in 1926 and grew up in and around Mt. Holly and Smackover. He was drafted out of high school and served in the Army as a Platoon Sergeant in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. Upon his honorable discharge in 1946, Wade returned to Smackover to finish high school and to receive his diploma. Wade worked in the oil field his entire career as an electrical technician for Phillips Petroleum Company until his retirement in 1982. In 1960, Wade, Pat, and their three children were transferred to Shidler, Oklahoma, with Phillips Petroleum. The family was transferred again in 1970 to Edmond, Oklahoma. Wade was an active member of the Church of Christ and served as an Elder for over thirty-five years. He was a retired private pilot and always had a love of airplanes and old cars. Wade was also an avid photographer and documented on film his entire adult life and the lives of his family. We will miss him very much. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM, Friday, April 29, 2011, at Edmond Church of Christ, with interment to be held 2:00 PM, Sunday, May 1, 2011, at Roselawn Cemetery, Junction City, AR. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to In Search of the Lord's Way, PO Box 371, Edmond, OK 73083. Services under the direction of Matthews Funeral Home, Edmond, OK.
