Also, a celebration of Bill's life will be held at the College Avenue Church of Christ in El Dorado, Arkansas, Saturday, September 20, at 10:00 A.M. Billy Dariel Allen (aka Bill, Dad, Papaw, Uncle Bill, Friend or Whatever) of Amarillo died on September 6, 2014, at the age of 84 years. Bill was a Texan by birth, a Christian by re-birth, and an Arkansan by choice. He was born in Bonham, Texas, on November 4, 1929, to W.J. and Ruby Allen. Bill spent most of his "growing-up" time in Sulphur Springs, Texas. He resided in El Dorado, Arkansas, from 1974 until last December 2013 when he moved to Amarillo, Texas, to be near family. After graduating from Sulphur Springs High School Bill attended East Texas State Teachers College, North Texas State Teachers College, David Lipscomb College, and College of the Southwest. He was the only person to have attended these prestigious institutions without attaining some kind of degree. His college years were a social success and an educational failure. On November 4, 1950, Bill married Carrol Deere of Levelland, Texas. Over the next fifteen years they were blessed with five children - four girls and one boy - Annice, Susan, Marilucy, Monty, and William. His early work was in business and industry and as part-time pulpit minister to several small congregations of churches of Christ. In August of 1963, he left the steel industry and entered fulltime church work. Bill was pulpit minister for congregations in Wolfforth, Denver City, Lamesa, and Cedar Hill, Texas; and El Dorado, Arkansas. After spending more than twenty years in fulltime ministry, he established Bill Allen Auction & Realty, Inc., in El Dorado, Arkansas. He was a licensed auctioneer in Arkansas, Louisiana, and Texas; a Certified General Appraiser in Arkansas and Louisiana; and a licensed Arkansas Real Estate Broker. Bill was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was an author and speaker and was always ready to share a story, joke, or poem. In recent years, his primary work was as fulltime grandfather and great-grand father. He also seasonally stood in for the real Santa Claus. Bill was preceded in death by his wife of nearly forty years Carrol Deere Allen; daughter Marilucy, son William, and son-in-law Mike Loe; parents W.J. and Ruby Allen, and parents-in-law J.C. and Monty A Deere; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Teady and Dwight Mann; and granddaughters Karon and Kimberly Loe. Bill's daughters wish to express their appreciation for the loving care extended to their father by the staff of Amarillo Center for Skilled Care. They also thank the saints at the University Church of Christ in Canyon for loving Bill and his family. Bill is survived by three daughters and one daughter-in-law: Annice Hill and her husband Keith of San Antonio, Texas; Susan Allen of Canyon, Texas; Monty Robinson and her husband Charles of Canyon, Texas; and Dineen Allen of El Dorado, Arkansas. He is survived by grandchildren Kyle and Whitney Hill of Austin, Texas; Addie and Hugh O'Beirne of Princeton, New Jersey; Courtney Bryan of Cambridge Springs, Pennsylvania; Emily and Mitch Warren of Houston, Texas; Michael Ann and Devin Robinson of Canyon, Texas; and Garrett Benson and Brennan and Tanner Allen of El Dorado, Arkansas; and great-grandchildren Wade Bryan, Zoe, Cassian, and Aidan O'Beirne, Ryder and Hudson Hill, and Caleb and Annabelle Warren. He is also survived by his aunt Carrie Ransom of Sulphur Springs, Texas; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Linda and Bob Odell of Levelland, Texas; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. In lieu of flowers, it was Bill's wish for memorials to be made to the Willa and Wattie Hooker Scholarship Fund, Harding University Advancement Office, PO Box 12238, Searcy, AR 72149,
