LANCE CORPORAL US Marine Corps
Vietnam
July 15, 1941 - February 10, 2022
*Obituary
John Boyd Cecil, 80, grandson of Jesse and Fannie (Martin) Finnell of Cleveland, Tennessee, passed away Thursday, Feb. 10, 2022, in Conway, Arkansas, after a long battle with lung disease.
He graduated from Bradley Co. High School in Cleveland, Tennessee, and joined the US Marine Corp during the Vietnam era. He and his family lived in east Tennessee for several years then moved to west Tennessee, where John joined Dover Corporation as purchasing manager. Later the family moved to Stuttgart, Arkansas, where John finished his work career as purchasing manager at Lennox Industries. After retiring, they moved to Mayflower, Arkansas, to be closer to their children and grandchildren where they enjoyed living on the lake. John was an avid fisherman, member of Toad Suck Hunting Club, and a dedicated and true Tennessee Volunteers football and men and women's basketball fan.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Bernoria Sue Brown Cecil; sons, Tim (Cheryl) and Mike (Cecelia); daughter, Lori Hofherr (Dwayne) and honorary daughter, Reign Britton. He leaves seven grandchildren, Jessica SenClair (Everett), Austin Hofherr, Jacob Hofherr, Emily Cecil, Alison Cecil, Riley Cecil and Jenna Hofherr; one great-granddaughter, Lillian SenClair; and multiple honorary family members as John treated everyone like family.
John had a larger than life personality and will be sorely missed by many from all across the United States as he never met a stranger.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Arkansas Game and Fish Foundation.
