Born 12 March 1941, South Boston, VA, died 10 May 2019, Fort Smith, Sebastian County, Arkansas
Bill was a member of the church of Christ. He served his Country in the United States Army, stationed in Korea during the beginning of the Vietnam Era. He was in the 3rd/6th Field Artillery Unit of Big Red One, stationed at Fort Chafee, 1963.
He met his bride, Sherrell Sue Stallings, at Beverly's Drive Inn, Towson Ave, Ft Smith and they married 1 Feb 1964. They were married 55 years.
To this union was born Robert Kenneth Buchanan (1968) & Catherine Buchanan (1975).
Bill retired (20 yrs) from Gerber Products Company, Ft Smith. Other former jobs he had involved working for Arkola Sand & Gravel in the early 70's and pouring the 1st concrete on the Ark/Okla Bridge at the end of Garrison Ave, Ft Smith. He worked for Bill Engles Sales & Service & later became co-owner of B&B Appliance of Van Buren with his brother Doug.
Bill had many friends and never met a stranger. He was a volunteer at the Ft Chaffee Barber Shop & Museum & a driver for the Ft Smith Trolley Museum.
Three summers he worked as a tour guide in Branson for The Shepherd of the Hills, telling the history and stories of the area.
He loved portraying a US Marshall for the Western District at the National Historic Site in Ft Smith.
Proud of his heritage, he joined the Gen Richard M Gano Camp #2292 of the Sons of the Confederate Veterans, was a member of Harry Hanna VFW Post 6527, Greenwood, AR., and Vietnam Veteran's Chapter 467 at Ft Chaffee.
Bill was also proud of his grandchildren, Emily & Adam.
His faithful fur baby, Alex, a shitzu, was with him to the end.

Funeral services were held at Putman Funeral Home in Ft Smith, with burial at Mount Harmony Cemetery, Greenwood, AR.
