*Obituary

Leon L. Kimes of Alma received his heavenly reward after a valiant battle with cancer. Mr. Kimes, a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, departed this life Wednesday, March 1, 2006, at the age of 73. Mr. Kimes was an ordained minister with the Assemblies of God and Pentecostal Church of God for more than 53 years. His ministry spanned many states and Old Mexico. He was an avid church planter in Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas and Old Mexico, many of which are flourishing today. He founded the former First Pentecostal Church of God in Alma, and also pastored the Mountainburg First Assembly of God. He established Kimes Realty in Alma in 1964. He continued to operate in the real estate business and land development up until his retirement in 2005. Although Mr. Kimes is probably best known for his real estate career, his passion was for the lost. His parents, Melvin and Lula Kimes of Chester, preceded Mr. Kimes in death. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Mary Ann; daughter, April Wells and husband, Jerry of Grapevine, Texas; son, Danny Kimes and his wife, Martha of Alma; son, Tony Kimes and his wife, Leslie of Alma; six grandchildren, Brian and his wife, Jennifer Kimes, Jason and his wife, Teya Kimes, and Amy Kimes, all of Alma, Summer (Wells) Little and her husband, Matthew of Bedford, Texas, Amber Wells of Grapevine, Texas, and Jonathon Kimes of Dallas; and the delight of his life, his three great-grandsons, Dillon and Collin Little of Bedford, Texas, and Bryzen Kimes of Alma. One sister, Sue Shipp of Winslow; two brothers, Glen Kimes of Chester and Carroll Kimes of Mountainburg; numerous sisters and brothers-in-law; scores of nieces, nephews and cousins. Homegoing celebration will be at Butterfield Assembly of God, Van Buren, Saturday, March 4, 2006, at 1 p.m. The family will receive guests at their home at 1500 Springhills Drive in Alma today from 6 to 8 p.m. Burial will be private.
