Ret. Chief MSgt. Charles Franklin Whitaker, 83, of Jacksonville passed from this life on Tuesday, October 23, 2018 at Conway Health Care in Conway. He was born Saturday, August 24, 1935 in Sulligent, Alabama to the late Lum Whitaker and Irene Odom Whitaker.
He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for twenty-three years. After retiring from the Air Force he was the Director of the University of Arkansas Physical Plant, retiring after thirty-three years.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He enjoyed meeting new people but found his greatest joy in his family. He was preceded in death by his sisters Frances Levalley; Alice Timbers; and Pauline Morton.
Survivors include his wife of Sixty-four years, Mary Lee Whitaker; children, Charles F. Whitaker JR (Sherry) of Dover, AR Trisha A Whitaker of Seattle, WA, and Elizabeth R Whitaker of Little Rock, AR. Other survivors include nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren; along with a host of extended family and friends.
Mass will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at St. Jude Catholic Church with Father Jeff Hebert as celebrant. Interment will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Park. Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Monday, 29, 2018 at Moore’s Jacksonville Funeral Home. Arrangements entrusted to Moore’s Jacksonville Funeral Home (501) 982-2136.
