Bobby Gene Nation, 63 of Jacksonville, passed away July 6, 2015 at his home after a short illness and a hard fight with brain cancer. He was born September 23, 1951 in Louisville, Mississippi to the late Clinton and Delma Nation. Bobby served in the U.S. Army from 1968-1970 during the Vietnam War. In 1976, he moved to Little Rock, Arkansas where he met the love of his life, Vanessa Westerfield. On June 17, 1978 they were married in Little Rock. Bobby was a welder by trade and loved the time he spent welding. He retired from the United States Postal Service on January 30, 2015 after 30 years of dedicated service. Bobby was a proud union member and served as Branch Mailhandler President for 8 years. He was very active in the community, volunteering his time to coach his son's baseball, basketball and soccer teams. In doing this, he touched many young lives. Bobby was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church. He served as president of Methodist Men for 4 years and supported the youth group. While he was sick he spent his time watching Sheriff Calle and Jake and the Neverland Pirates with his three grandchildren as well as attending a few softball games. Bobby was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Mary Kathryn Bishop; two brothers, Thomas and Melvin Nation; father-in-law, LaVaughn Westerfield. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Vanessa Nation; two sons, Joshua (Stephanie) Nation, David (Lindsay) Nation, all of Jacksonville; adopted son, Noah (Kirby) Miraglia; three grandchildren, Jordan, Kynlee and Ryder; mother-in-law, Willa Westerfield of Jacksonville; a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Bobby had a very big personality and never met a stranger. He was a friend to all who knew him and will be missed by many. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 10, 2015 at First United Methodist Church in Jacksonville will Reverend Brad Moore and Reverend Scott Schaeffer officiating. Interment will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Moore's Jacksonville Funeral Home. The family suggests memorials be made to First United Methodist Church Youth Group or the American Glibastoma Brain Tumor Association, 8550 West Bryn Mawr Avenue, Suite 550, Chicago, Illinois 60631. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Moore's Jacksonville Funeral Home & Crematory. (501) 982-2136.
