Henry Clay Hayman was born in Brown County, ohio in 1827 the son of Sampson and Elizabeth Reeder Hayman.
Henrys' mother was the daughter of Simeon Reeder, who married Elizabeth Boone, daughter of the famous pioneer Daniel Boone.

Henry lost his mother at the age of eight years old and his father when he was 10 years old. He was cared for by his maternal grandmother until the age of 12. He then accompanied his uncle near Flemingsburg, Kentucky and there worked with his uncle who was a miller by trade.
At the age of 19 he left his uncle and went to Cincinnati, Ohio and with his twin brother, John Quincy Adams Hayman. He worked in a mill until 1852. He then moved to Van Buren, Arkansas where he worked in the milling business.

In 1847 he married Miss Jane Casner, who was born in Hamilton County, Ohio in 1827. To this marriage was born three children, all in Cincinnati, Ohio; Simeon, Ella and William Hayman.

He served in Co C 1st Arkansas Cavalry during the Civil War.

Henry was a Republican and after the war, during the reconstruction was United States Military Registrar of Crawford County. He served on the City Council at different times for 13 years, was a member of the school board, was a Royal Arch Mason and a Past D.D.G.M. of the I.O.O.F. of Arkansas.

Henry was Mayor of Van Buren, 1890-1891.

He is the son of Sary Elizabeth Reeder and Sampson Hayman. He is the grandson of Simon Reeder and Elizabeth "Betsy" Boone, who is the daughter of Jacob Boone (cousin of famous Daniel Boone) and Mary DeHart.
