James Gayland Cavenaugh, 76, of Pocahontas, Arkansas, passed away on Saturday, January 9, 2021, at his home. He was born on Friday, December 22, 1944, in Pocahontas, to Charlie and Dessie Dixon Cavenaugh.
Gayland owned and enjoyed running Cavenaugh Marine. He also loved and avidly supported youth sports, especially hunting and fishing.
Gayland is preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Dessie Dixon Cavenaugh; brother, Charlie Cavenaugh; sister, Charlene Nordstrom; stepfather, Frank Rosselot; and brother-in-law, George Nordstrom.
Gayland is survived by his loving wife, Marie Cavenaugh, of the home; sister, Patsy (Frank) Cummins, of Pocahontas; nephews; Donald (Fran) Cavenaugh, of Walnut Ridge, Ronald (Kathy) Cavenaugh, of Walnut Ridge, Oscar (Lise) Nordstrom, of Iowa, Eric Nordstrom, of Iowa, Shawn (Allison) Cummins, of Chicago, Illinois, and Jason (Christine) Cummins, of Pocahontas; nieces, Brenda (Marty Gieson) Cavenaugh, of Florida, Misty (Jerrod) Bradley, of Ravenden, and Barbara (Frank) Walker; and many great nieces and nephews, and many, many friends.
All services will be held in the chapel of Hope Gardens Funeral Home, in Pocahontas. Gayland’s visitation will be held from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm, on Thursday, January 14, 2021. His funeral service will begin at 1:00 pm, on Friday, January 15, 2021; Gerald Fears officiating. Gayland will be laid to rest in the Oak Forest Cemetery, in Black Rock.
Honored to carry Gayland to his final earthly resting place are Rick Hudson, Stephen Malone, Eric Vance, Keith White, Randy Stewart and Oscar Nordstrom.
The family has respectfully designated Harley Culver, Kenny Davis, Danny Ballard and Michael Halliburton as honorary pallbearers.
