Beaver Lake accident

A Huntsville High School student was killed last Friday after the car he was in rolled off a bluff and into Beaver Lake, according to the Washington County Sheriff's Office.

Clifford Collins, 16, was sitting in the vehicle after his family "had pulled over to look at the view, and had also been having some vehicle trouble," when the vehicle started rolling back and into the lake, according to a Washington County Sheriff's Office Facebook post.

According to the Sheriff's office, law officials were notified at approximately 2:30 p.m. Friday that a vehicle had gone into Beaver Lake on Saddleshop Road, near Highway 412. The Washington County Coroner's Office transported Clifford's body to the Arkansas State Crime Lab to confirm cause of death, and that while the investigation is ongoing, no foul play is suspected.

Late Friday night, administration with the Huntsville High School posted on the school's Facebook that counselors would be available to talk to students on Monday.

"The Huntsville School District Administration team has received confirmation that a Huntsville High School student passed away in a tragic accident this afternoon," the post states. "Our deepest sympathy and condolences are extended to the family. Counselors will be available to assist students and staff members Monday morning for as long as needed."

On Tuesday, Huntsville School District Assistant Superintendent Tammi Davis said counseling services will continue to be available "as long and needed," and that counselors from other schools were on standby to assist Monday. Davis added that Collins was honored by his peers Monday who wore vis said, "Our sympathy and deepest condolences go out to Clifford's family and friends. He was a special young man who will always be remembered by all who knew him in Huntsville."

"Huntsville High School students honored Clifford on Monday in various ways throughout the school," The Sheriff's Office, GEMS, the Nob Hill Fire Department, the Hickory Creek Fire Department, the Army Corps of Engineers and dive teams from both Washington and Benton counties responded to the scene Friday.

Clifford Vernon Collins, 16, of Springdale, died Feb. 10, 2017, near Springdale.

He was born May 9, 2000 in Springdale, the son of Charles Allen and Reba Marie Marbut Collins.

He was a student at Huntsville High School.

Survivors include: his father, Charles Allen Collins of Wagoner, Okla,; his mother, Reba Marie Collins of Springdale; two sisters, Victoria Collins and Sierra Collins, both of Springdale; his grandparents, Shirley and James Jones, George Marbut and Madeline and James Arrington, all of Hindsville, and Roger and Karen Collins of Claremore, Okla. and his great-grandmother, Joyce Fryman of Claremore.

Funeral services were held Saturday Feb. 18, in the chapel of Brashears Funeral Home with Brother Jeff Netherton officiating.

Interment followed in the Austin Cemetery at Best, under the direction of Brashears Funeral Home of Huntsville.
