BELLA VISTA — Helen Milam died Jan. 20, 2017, at the age of 98. She and her husband R.D. "Mike" Milam, who preceded her in death in 2013 after 75 years of marriage, had lived in Bella Vista since 1980.
Helen was a graduate of Butler County Community College in Eldorado, Kan., class of 1938, she then married Mike and they moved to Lawrence, Kan., where Mike enrolled in the University of Kansas' School of Business.
That began a series of twelve moves, including Mike's days in San Diego during World War II. Helen was a devoted wife to a naval officer and they both rejoiced in starting their family.
Helen was an active member of the Bella Vista Community Church, the organ club, and the ladies five-hole golf league. She is survived by her daughter Judy Karr and her husband Jeffry, son Ron and his wife Maxine, son Mike and his wife Sally, and grandsons Alex and his wife Traci, Justin and his wife Carrie, and Joshua, plus seven great-grandchildren: Kirby, Gabriel, Moriah, Jedidiah, Malachi, Maggie and Abigail. Cremation has taken place through Bella Vista Funeral Home and Crematory.
A memorial service celebrating Helen's life will be held at Bella Vista Community Church on Saturday, Feb. 18, 2017, at 11 a.m. The Milam family wishes to express their appreciation for the loving kindness and support of Linda and Harry Cheek, Todd Mitchell and his mother Kathy, and Aunt Helen, the members of the Bella Vista Community Church and its Pastor Jeff Reed, caregivers Glenda Klint, Carolyn Lockett, Barbara Peitsch, Sharon Cochran, and Texas Tech student Uyen "Carie" Nguyen. Helen loved all of you very much.
The family wishes that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Bella Vista Community Church or the Bentonville Chapter of the Breast Cancer Society.
