C. Truman Steele, 87, of Bella Vista, died Tuesday, April 17, 2001, in Bates Medical Center. Born July 10, 1913, in Marionville, Mo., he was the son of Clellie Thomas and Lucinda Rickman Steele.

He received a Bachelor of Science degree from Drury College in 1934, a Master of Science degree from the University of Arkansas in 1935, and a Doctor of Philosophy degree from the UA in 1938. He served as a faculty member of the University of Arkansas from 1936-37. He was a member of the American Chemical Society, American Institute of Chemical Engineers, and American Men of Science. He was employed by EXXON and Imperial Oil, Ltd., from 1938-75. He served as a faculty member of the University of Alberta from 1975-78. In 1980 he moved to the area from Edmonton, Alberta Canada.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Steele of the home; a son, Thomas J. Steele of Inkom, Idaho; a sister, Elizabeth Hall of Crane, Mo.; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Private burial will be at the Bella Vista Cemetery. Cremation arrangements are by Callison-Lough Funeral Service in Bentonville.
