alter Marvin Behrens, 83, of Georgetown, died Wednesday, March 13, 2013 at White County Medical Center. He was born November 19, 1929 in Walcott, Iowa to the late Henry and Margaretha Arp Behrens.

Raised an Iowa farm boy, Walter entered the Army after high school, and there he experimented with an amateur boxing career. After his enlistment in the Army was complete, he then pursued life as an entrepreneur and became a partner of Illinois Iowa Tire Company. In retirement, he enjoyed the slower pace and homely atmosphere of Georgetown. He loved dancing, and playing games like checkers, cards, and dominos.

His first marriage of 35 years was to Lucy Trudell Behrens, who preceded him in death in 1989. He is also preceded in death by one infant son, B. Behrens; two brothers, and four sisters. He is survived by his second wife of 23 years, Polly Overstreet Behrens; one son, Steve Behrens of Bettendorf, Iowa; one grandson, Jeremy Behrens; three step sons, Howard, David, and Roy Byerly; one step daughter, Kelli Lancial; several step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren; three brothers and one sister.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Friday, March 15, 2013 at Searcy-McEuen Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday in the Searcy-McEuen Chapel with burial following at Georgetown Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Humane Society of Searcy.
