When Phillip D Mason was born on September 27, 1817, in Caldwell, Kentucky, his father, Caswell, was 20 and his mother, Frances, was 20. He married Margaret Holeman (1821–1841) in 1842 in Kentucky. They had three children in 11 years. He died on February 25, 1873, at the age of 55, and was buried in Plainview, Arkansas.
