Mr. Ralph H. Silzell, age 83 of Mountain Home passed away Thursday, February 17, 2011 at his residence. He was born April 6, 1927 in Mesa, Colorado to William Edward and Iva Mae Carver Silzell.
At age 18, he joined the Merchant Marines and served as a Chef and Baker on the ship. Ralph married Mary Emma Fogg in Mesa, Colorado on April 13, 1947. After his service, he worked for Union Oil Company on tankers. Ralph moved his family to Mountain Home, where he opened a bakery in 1959, where he remained until he retired in 1974. During his retirement, Ralph enjoyed beekeeping and wood carving.
Ralph is survived by his wife, Mary Emma of Mountain Home ; one sister, Elda Nielson; one daughter, Norma (Mike) Thiel of St. Louis, MO; two sons: Jerry (Sammy) Silzell of Caulfield, MO and Billy (Sharon) Silzell of Bull Shoals; seven grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 12 until 9 PM Saturday, February 19 at Roller Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 6 until 8 PM. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Sunday, February 20, 2011 at Roller Funeral Home. Entombment with military honors will follow in Baxter Memorial Gardens Mausoleum of Peace.
Memorials may be made to Shriners Hospital or Arkansas Children's Hospital.
