Jennie Aline Byerly Brooks of Augusta, age 86, died Sunday, August 5, at Lincoln Heights Healthcare in Star City, where she had resided for the last two and a half years. In those years she was very blessed by being well taken care of by the caring people of Lincoln Heights and her loving family.
Jennie was the youngest daughter born to the late Thomas Elmer and Alta Agnes Byerly in Tuckerman, on December 17, 1925. She was a faithful member of Grace Baptist Church in Augusta for many years. Her church family was a very important part of her life.
Jennie Graduated high school from the Beedeville School District. "Ms. Jennie" as everyone knew her worked for the Augusta Elementary School as a secretary for 21 years. She loved working at the school, and she greeted everyone with a smile and friendly words. As a survivor of cancer, she strongly supported Relay for Life and the American Cancer Society.
Jennie was preceded in death by her loving parents, and infant brother, William Haskel Byerly, and her precious grandson, Lance Bullard.
Jennie is survived by her two loving children, a son, John William "Bill" Brooks III of Augusta, and a daughter, Margaret Bullard and loving son-in-law, Eddie of Star City. She is also survived by her special granddaughter, Skye Hatcher and husband Bo, and two very special great –grandchildren, Samantha and Matthew Hatcher, all of Star City. She was known as "Gangy" by her grandchildren who loved her very much. She is also survived by two loving sisters, Katherine Johnston of Tuckerman and O'neal Overfelt of Newport, several nieces, nephews, and many friends in Augusta and Star City.
Funeral Services are 10:00AM Wednesday at Rhodes Funeral Home in Augusta, AR. Bro. Eddie Meharg will officiate. Visitation is 6:00-8:00PM Tuesday at Rhodes Funeral Home. A private family burial will be at Hickory Grove Cemetery near Star City
