J.M. Martz, 74 of Melbourne, died Tuesday October 23, 2018 at White River Medical Center in Batesville.
Joe was born May 12, 1944 in Saffell, Arkansas to Lloyd Edward Martz & Hazel Darter Martz. He was a loving husband, father, and friend. He was married to Earlene Stuart Martz for over 50 years. He was an outdoors-man who loved to hunt & fish and had a passion for sports. He was a St. Louis Cardinals fan and any Razorbacks team. He was very proud of being inducted into the Lawrence County Sports Hall of Fame as a member of the 1962 American Legion Team. He spent most of his career in law enforcement; 28 years as an Arkansas state trooper and 6 as Sheriff of Izard County. He was a member of the Melbourne Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Lloyd D. Martz.
He is survived by his wife Earlene; daughters, Andrea Martz and Jodi Boggs; grandchildren, Jared Lester, Jordan Cooper, Matthew Engelhardt, & Johna Engelhardt; and many nieces, nephews, & friends.
Visitation is Friday October 26, 2018 at the Melbourne Church of Christ from 6:00PM-8:00PM.
Funeral services are Saturday October 27, 2018 at 10:00AM at the Melbourne Church of Christ with Ryan Lloyd officiating.
For Lasting Memorials, contributions may be sent to the Arkansas State Police Teddy Bear Program. This program was so important to Joe.
Donations may be sent to ASP Foundation, 5702 Dreher Lane, Little Rock, AR 72209.
Burial is in Ward Cemetery in Strawberry under direction of House-Gregg Funeral Home of Walnut Ridge & Lynn, Arkansas.
