Meredith "Duke" Rice, 82, of Union Hill, went to Heaven on January 7th, 2018 after a long battle with Alzheimers. Duke was born in Hickory Flat, Arkansas on April 8th, 1935 to Meredith and Mary Jane (Whitacre) Rice.
He was preceded in death by his mom and dad; five brothers; three sisters; one son, Michael Wayne Rice; and one daughter, Vicky Ann (Cooper) Rice.
Left to cherish his memories are his wife of 57 years, Alma (Poole) Rice; two brothers, Frelen (Stella) Rice of Bald Knob, Earon Rice of Jenks, Oklahoma; four daughters, Karen McSpadden (David) of Bradford, Rebecca Lambert (Bill) of Bryant, Shelly Barnes of Bradford and Jodi Nash ( Gerald) of Bradford. He had 11 grandkids and 10 great-grandkids with 2 more on the way.
Duke worked most of his life in timber. He cut furniture squares, pulp wood, cross ties and lumber. After selling the mill he worked at the Wal-Mart distribution center until he retired. He enjoyed wood working, working on small engines, going to auctions, family get togethers and traveling. A trip to Australia was his most cherished that he relived everyday.
Friends may visit at the funeral home Wednesday 5:00-7:00 p.m. Funeral services are 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Oakland Hill Free Will Baptist Church. Interment will be in Oakland Cemetery.
