When John Kelly Chafton was born on March 23, 1913, in Arkansas, his father, John, was 24 and his mother, Minnie, was 22. He married Gladys Frances Carnell on October 9, 1940, in his hometown. They had two children during their marriage. He died in June 1978 in Helena, Arkansas, at the age of 65.
