Charles Manley, 69, of Cushman, Arkansas died Friday, February 1, 2013 at a local hospital.

He was born November 6, 1943 in Cushman and was the son of Ray and Velma Jordan Manley.

He was a graduate of Cushman High School Class of 1961 and served in the National Guard from 1961 to 1968.

He was an active member of the Cushman Volunteer Fire Department, serving for 31 years as a firefighter and 4 of those years as chief for the department. He was also a long-time Independence County constable, serving the Cushman area. Charles served 10 years as a member of the Cushman School Board, 9 years as a member of the Cushman City Counsel, and 7 years on the Independence County Sheriff's Reserve. He worked for International Shoe Company for 21 years and retired from Lyon College after 18 years of service. He was an avid pool player, fisherman, and woodworker. He was a member of the Cushman United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Lucy Ann Jackson Manley of Cushman; son, Scotty Manley of Kansas City, Missouri; grandson, Stephen Manley of West Plains, Missouri; and a sister, Mitzi Manley Felts of Batesville, Arkansas; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Teddy and Jerry Manley; three sisters, Norma Rae Hall, Carol Harmon, and Joyce Manley.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 5, 2013 at Cushman United Methodist Church with Bro. Carl Blankenship officiating.

Burial will be at Pleasant Valley Cemetery near Cushman by Roller-Crouch Funeral Home of Batesville.

Pallbearers are Jody Grooms, Eddie Dugger, Greg Dugger, Chad Grooms, Brian Manley, Heath Branscum, Shane Manley and Stephen Manley.

Honorary pallbearers will be the Cushman Volunteer Firefighters and the Cushman High School Class of 1961.

Visitation is from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Monday, February 4, 2013 at the funeral home.
