When John Freiderich Rittman was born on March 19, 1861, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, his father, Christian, was 24 and his mother, Anna, was 26. He had six brothers and two sisters. He died in 1884 in Stuttgart, Arkansas, at the age of 23, and was buried there.
