Two held in man's fatal shooting

SPRINGDALE — Two arrests were made Saturday in connection with a Friday shooting that left a Springdale man dead, police say.

Carlos Casillas, 20, of Springdale has been charged with manslaughter and aggravated robbery, said Lt. Jeff Taylor, Springdale Police Department spokesman.

An unnamed 16-year-old was arrested and charged with manslaughter and aggravated robbery, he said.

Kevin Eduardo Aleman, 19, was shot and taken Friday to Northwest Medical Center in Springdale, where he was pronounced dead, Taylor said.

Several suspects were detained Friday after Aleman was found shot in the head at a car wash behind the Valero gas station at 3818 Elm Springs Road at about 4:50 p.m., Taylor said.

Police determined during the course of the investigation that Aleman, Casillas and a 16-year-old went to the gas station with the intent to rob an unnamed individual during a drug transaction, Taylor said. The individuals brought a shotgun and pistol to use during the robbery, he said.

A fight broke out during the robbery attempt, Taylor said. The person they attempted to rob had a gun in his possession and fired multiple times with at least one bullet striking Aleman in the head.

The individual who shot Aleman fled the scene but called 911 to inform authorities he was involved in the shooting and met with officers a short distance away from the scene of the incident, Taylor said. He was taken to the police department where he was interviewed about what occurred, he said.

Aleman's body will be sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for an autopsy to determine the manner and cause of death.

Casillas was being held Saturday at the Washington County Detention Center on $100,000 bond, according to the Washington County Sheriff Office's website.

The 16-year-old was being held Saturday at the Washington County Juvenile Detention Center, Taylor said.

The Valero station was open for gas purchases, but the store is closed.
